The Marathon , which is a cross country run, which copes with changing topography and climate, crosses varied terrains and sites and bears a historic and heroic overtones of challenge and mission, is trans-located into an inner space, in attempt to fulfill a fantasy.
In this piece, as in many of our works, we deal with several subjects that are derived from our reality;

•  Our dual situation, which we like to refer to as a binary system

•  The notion of the artist in relation to its role in society, the self image and public image as reflected in terms attached to it, such as heroism, pathos, vulnerability, achievement, devotion, competition, extreme...

•  Art as motivation. As a generator of movement and effort.

In The Marathon we create a self-contained unit, that its shape, its space, its behavior- function autonomously. This unit is self-generated, self-motivated and is eliminating the sense of individuality.

It is a system, a mechanism designed to its own satisfaction. Therefore, there is no competition between its components. Though, the apparent symmetry and harmony are actually loaded with tension and discipline.

This is a motivation without a goal, the effort is fruitless and it leads nowhere. The horizons, like those, which are depicted in the "21 Kilometer" photos, are arbitrary.

In The Marathon , eroticism is a sustained situation and fantasy remains out of reach even during its actual realization.
